FAQ

Cleaning your fly line is very important especially when fishing saltwater. Simply pull line off your reel into a clean bucket or tub of freshwater. Put roughly 1oz or more of Cortland’s Line Cleaner solution onto a clean rag or towel. Firmly squeeze the towel with Pro Line Cleaner around the line and slowly pull line through the towel. You should be able to see dirt or discolored streaks on the towel when finished.

50 years, still one of the best

I’ve been using the 444 peach since I was a teen. I have tried other brands, and most preformed fine, but I always seem to come back to the 444 peach. Simply put, it cast and presents the fly in a smooth predictable manner. I like that it is built weight wise to the fly line standard. If I buy 4 weight, I get a 4 weight. If I wanted a 6 weight, I would buy a 6 weight.

Classic line

This line has been great for the small streams and rivers I use this for. Easy through the guides, precise fly delivery, and rolls great. It's the first time I have used Cortland lines and this was purchased upon recommendation. I've since purchased the Cortland Micron backing and two other Cortland fly lines, the 333 in 5wt. and 7wt. , and I am looking forward to trying those soon. Will continue to use Cortland products in the future and will recommend to others. Thanks.

444 Peach Double Taper Fly Line – Tradition Meets Technical Precision

July 15th, 2025

When timeless design meets modern craftsmanship, you get a fly line like the Cortland 444 Peach Double Taper. Celebrated for over 50 years, this line continues to be the choice of discerning anglers who demand balance, control, and a touch of nostalgia. The Double Taper configuration offers an unmatched ability to roll cast, mend with subtlety, and make effortless presentations—especially when stealth is key. Designed to perform in temperate conditions between 30°F and 70°F, the 444 Peach DT remains one of the most versatile freshwater lines ever created.

At the heart of this line is Cortland’s braided nylon multifilament core, wrapped in a supple, high-floating coating that resists memory and lays down smoothly on the water. Its symmetrical taper profile makes it the perfect companion for anglers fishing slow- to medium-action rods—particularly bamboo and fiberglass—though its consistency benefits graphite users just as well. Whether you're laying out a dry fly on a tight spring creek or adjusting your drift across tricky currents, the 444 Peach DT provides the tactile feedback and casting finesse you need to fish with confidence.

Double Taper Versatility for the Thoughtful Angler

Unlike aggressive weight-forward lines that emphasize distance and punch, the double taper design is all about control. The 444 Peach Double Taper features a gradual front and rear taper that transitions seamlessly into a consistent belly section, giving anglers the ability to form perfect loops and make subtle adjustments mid-drift. This line thrives when precision and finesse matter most—whether you're softly dropping a Blue Wing Olive on a glassy pool or carefully mending line behind a boulder.

The real magic of the double taper format becomes apparent over time: once one end shows wear, the line can be reversed and reused, offering twice the life span of a standard line. For the angler who values longevity and sustainability without sacrificing performance, this is a huge plus. Additionally, the even taper and supple build allow for quieter pickups and landings, helping you avoid spooking fish in clear or pressured waters. It's a favorite among technical dry fly fishers, but it also lends itself well to small nymphs and wet flies when subtle presentations are required.

A Classic Feel for Modern Waters

The 444 Peach DT isn't just a throwback—it's a tool finely tuned for today’s anglers who appreciate nuance. It’s ideal for fishing situations that reward a delicate touch: shaded streams, slow-moving eddies, or days when trout rise to insects the size of a grain of rice. What sets this line apart isn't just its performance, but the way it feels—responsive, consistent, and reliable. It casts like a whisper and lands like one, too.

This line remains popular not just for its capabilities, but for the casting rhythm it fosters. You don’t power your way through a cast with the 444 Peach Double Taper—you guide it. It's that quiet elegance, combined with proven durability and craftsmanship, that keeps this line in the hands of anglers who know that not every fish is fooled with flash. Sometimes, the best presentation is the one they never hear coming.
