Tarpon Breakdown

The only thing better than spotting crusing Tarpon on the deck of a flat’s skiff is having a line that will consistently deliver flies into the feeding zone. We designed this line for capitalizing on quick opportunities when Tarpon are on the feed bag.

Our Tarpon Taper is built with a short 7 ft. body for quickly transferring energy into your cast and delivering flies efficiently. The 31 ft. back taper helps carry line in the air when longer casts are necessary and allows for quick pickups when the fish are on the move. The short 3 ft. front taper effortlessly turns over any tarpon patterns and weighted flies.

This line features a monofilament core and our signature tropic plus coating for withstanding the hottest temperatures while still remaining slick, supple and fast shooting. The aqua green and sand color combination distinguishes taper change and is stealthy out on the flats.

FAQ

Our Tarpon Line is built for tropic environments and will perform best in temperatures above 70 degrees (F). Our Tropic PVC coating is designed to remain hard, slick and supple in the hottest conditions.

The taper design for our Tarpon line was built to be aggressive up front to quickly transfer energy into your cast and easily turn over any weighted or non-weighted tarpon pattern. The long rear taper helps excel in carrying line in the air and throwing tight loops. It also helps with quick pick ups off the water, when recasting to a target on the move. This line is built in true line size so your rod never feels overlined when casting maximum distance.

The aqua green and sand finish distinguishes taper change, while blending in with tropic environemnts. This line remains stealthy yet traceable out on the flats or mangroves.

Cleaning your fly line is very important especially when fishing saltwater. Simply pull line off your reel into a clean bucket or tub of freshwater. Put roughly 1oz or more of Cortland’s Line Cleaner solution onto a clean rag or towel. Firmly squeeze the towel with Pro Line Cleaner around the line and slowly pull line through the towel. You should be able to see dirt or discolored streaks on the towel when finished.

Very good line...

I feel that this line is true to the line weight of the rod. I wanted a line that would work well with a fast action rod, and carry lots of line in the air with good a sized fly. it's really good for that application if you have good casting skills . I used the 11 wt version on a Gloomis NRX while tarpon fishing with large flies and decided to give it a try on my 7wt. I'm not disappointed. Again, if u are looking for standard weight + 1/2 or 3/4, this is not it.

Tarpon fly line

I have been waiting for a company to put out a 40 foot head. At first I thought the line was going to be like all shooting head lines but was pleasantly surprised with the ease of turnover at 80 feet.....It is perfectly weighted in the right spots ...As a Tarpon fly fishing guide here in Boca Grande we do get really excellent casters who can easily handle the 40 foot head.. Already throwing it and clients love it!!!

A Great Permit Line....

An excellent line,; I've been using on an old but still very good 10 wt. Sage xi2 for years. I also use on a G. Loomis Crosscurrent Pro 10 wt. I'm a permit fisherman mostly, so need to make long accurate casts. I over line these rods so my line is an 11 wt.

I like that the Cortland lines don't have a strong "memory". Many other lines I've tried take some sffort to relax.
