Trout lines

Was a great line for most of the year, cleaned it regularly but I was checking out my rod at a pond today and found it has cracks all through it. Had a line do that ten years ago. How is it that I have used older cortland fly lines for several years with no issues then you buy a new line and get a year out of it? Have used Cortland lines for over 50 years. and probably have an old reel still loaded with 333 on it that is still good. I bought the line on line last year. Fly line should last longer with regular cleaning just saying etc.... Thanks

Casts great, good value

This has become my go to WF flyline. I use it primarily for indicator nymphing. Roll casts great. Nice handling. Floats well. Excellent value.

Disappointed

Too heavy for Orivis Recon 5wt rod. Very poor casting performance. Also, line developed a crack after 3 time using it.

Disappointing Line

Very disappointed in the Modern Trout line. I purchased a WF5F last week and fished it this weekend for fall trout on a moderately sized river. The line loads well close (20-30’ casts) but performs inconsistently beyond that range, frequently failing to turnover small BWOs to rising trout at 30’ and beyond; it seemed like one out of every three casts would lay out perfectly but the other two would fail to straighten or hook dramatically left or right. Very frustrating. This issue may be attributed to line construction, as stripped line regularly coiled badly and required constant untangling. These are issues I’d attribute to cheaper lines and not Cortland. I’ll continue to use my peach and Sylk lines, but the Modern Trout is getting shelved.

Modern trout

My go to fly line for trout as well as bream. I cast it well and love the color, of course I still believe color does matter. Some might say it’s all in my head…. but it’s just the way I customize my personal fly fishing experience.

The Modern Trout is an excellent all around line

I really appreciate the Modern Trout. It works well on many of the rods that I regualrly use. I appreciate the fact that it can toss delicate dry flies, throw streamers, and roll-cast with ease and distance. It allows me to use one line throughout a day that can range from fishing weighted streamers, delicate dry flies, and smaller soft-hackles.

Great Line

Modern Trout is my favorite line. Not only is it slick and very durable but the color is very stealthy. It is my go to.

Excellent line!

I replaced my SA MPX line with the cortland 444 modern trout for my 3WT med-fast action rod. This line was a world of difference, and did not feel clunky when casting.

I would only ask for a welded loop for the backing end.
